Global warming is real and a threat to the world's animal population. The year 2004 was the fourth hottest on record, extending a trend since 1990. If we continue to emit greenhouse gases at our current pace, our earth's temperature is projected to skyrocket by as much as 10º F in the next 100 years.

Gator Club Volunteers at Zoo

Core volunteers are at the heart of the Zoo, and thanks to them, the Zoo is able to continue doing great things. We also are privileged to have many community businesses and organizations support the Zoo on a volunteer base such as the Gator Club of Brevard that came out recently and helped remove more than a ton of sand from Zoo grounds.

Brevard Zoo’s Role:

Brevard Zoo has provided an environmental teaching suitcase to 12 of the 18 PASA (Pan African Sanctuary Alliance) sanctuaries, of which LWC is one. The suitcase contains a variety of teaching tools such as animal puppets, maps, games, puzzles and books that local educators then use in their education programs. Currently Brevard Zoo is working with Limbe to set up a webcam which will allow for live feed back to our Zoo allowing visitors a glimpse into the world of African sanctuaries.

Visayan Warty Pigs Have Arrived

Our Visayan warty pig exhibit just opened Father's Day weekend. Many guests came out wearing mohawks both Saturday and Sunday. It was awfully warm, so the pigs were regularly lounging in the mud.
