Global warming is real and a threat to the world's animal population. The year 2004 was the fourth hottest on record, extending a trend since 1990. If we continue to emit greenhouse gases at our current pace, our earth's temperature is projected to skyrocket by as much as 10º F in the next 100 years.

Brevard Zoo's Mission:
"Wildlife Conservation Through Education and Participation" ...it's more than a slogan at Brevard Zoo!

Our keepers with puppets from environmental education suitcase they purchased for Congo Project.

We actively support in Brevard County the following programs: sea turtle research, manatee rescues, the Monofilament Recycling Program, the Right Whale volunteer network, and education programs. Around the world, the Zoo supports chimpanzee research in Congo, an education center in Kenya, and the development of education materials for projects in Dominica, Peru, Zimbabwe, Namibia and the Republic of Congo and MORE.


2007 Conservation Highlights:
Funds spent 2001 through 2007: $225,000
Total funds spent in 2007: $30,000
Number of field projects supported: 20
Countries: U.S., Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Mexico, Belize, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe
Local projects: Sea turtle research; scrub jay research; oyster restoration project; Florida Wildlife Hospital; monofilament recycling program

Grants and Fund Raisers received:
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services--$13,100 for ZIWA rhino sanctuary in Uganda (to be spent in 2007)
Suntree Rotary Club and Stuart Interact Club--$2000 grant to create two environmental teaching suitcase 
Safari Under the Stars--Raised $2,000 for two additional environmental suitcased
Conservation Dinner--Raised $7,400 from the conservation dinner with guest speaker Jack Hanna
