Impala

An impala, Aepyceros melampus ?(Greek aipos "high" ceros "horn" + melas "black" pous "foot") is a medium-sized African antelope. The name impala comes from the Zulu language. They are found in savannas in Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, southern Angola, northeastern South Africa, and Uganda.

The impala is a medium-sized antelope with a graceful build. Impala prefer woodland and grassland edges, usually close to water. One calf is born after a gestation period of about 6 1/2 months. Small calves are often seen in groups, guarded by one or more mothers, while others go off to drink and feed. The impala is known to be an excellent jumper.Young male impala form bachelor herds of around 30 individuals. Females and young form herds of up to 200 individuals. Mature males hold territories and lead any female herds that wander into their territory.
